Shocking Incident in Assam: Woman Allegedly Gang-Raped by Multiple Men in Front of Boyfriend, ₹10,000 Extorted in Silchar

Silchar, Assam — A 28-year-old woman was allegedly gang-raped by a group of men in broad daylight near Silchar in Assam’s Cachar district on February 19, police and local reports confirm. The horrific assault reportedly took place on the Ramnagar Bypass Road, where the victim and her boyfriend were parked in their car when the attackers approached.
According to the survivor’s complaint, seven to eight unidentified men arrived in an SUV, confronted the couple, and forcibly dragged the woman out of the vehicle. They then allegedly raped her one after another in front of her partner while holding him at knifepoint. After the assault, the men reportedly robbed the couple of ₹10,000, obtained through a UPI transfer, and fled the scene.
The woman later filed a complaint at the Silchar Sadar Police Station, leading to the registration of a case under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita, including gang rape, extortion, criminal intimidation and unlawful assembly.
Following her identification of two suspects, police have arrested them, while efforts continue to trace and apprehend the remaining accused. Authorities have also taken the woman for a medical examination and are investigating the vehicle allegedly used in the crime.
The incident has sparked outrage across the region, with community members urging swift action and strict enforcement of the law. Local police have appealed to the public to avoid spreading unverified information as the investigation progresses.
